SOMERSET, TEXAS — The Somerset Bulldogs made a statement Friday night, defeating the Floresville Tigers 43-15 in a District 14-4A Division I matchup. The victory gave Somerset its third win of the 2026 season and moved the Bulldogs to 3-2 overall.

Somerset controlled the game with a strong offensive performance while its defense kept Floresville from finding the consistency it had shown during the opening weeks of the season. The Tigers entered the matchup averaging big offensive numbers, including a 67-3 victory over Kennedy the previous week, but Somerset was able to limit Floresville to 15 points.

#3 Shamar Nichols Makes His Presence Felt

One of the players to keep an eye on for Somerset continues to be sophomore wide receiver #3, Shamar Nichols.

Nichols brings an impressive combination of size and athleticism to the Bulldogs' offense. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds and plays both wide receiver and kick returner.

Nichols has already attracted attention beyond Somerset. Texas Football highlighted him during the 2026 State 7-on-7 tournament, noting his ability to make contested catches and use his size and catch radius to create big plays.

The young playmaker has also shown his athletic ability outside of football. During the 2026 track season, Nichols posted a 45-foot triple jump at the UIL 4A Region IV meet.

Against Floresville, #3 was another important piece of a Somerset offense that continued to show why the Bulldogs have several explosive weapons capable of changing the game.

Somerset Builds Momentum

The 43-15 victory comes after Somerset opened the season with wins over Veterans Memorial and another opponent before dropping games to Alamo Heights and Boerne. The Bulldogs now have momentum heading deeper into district play.

Floresville, meanwhile, falls to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in district play following the loss. The Tigers had previously put together four straight victories, including wins over Southside, Long Creek and Kennedy.

For Somerset, the focus now turns toward the remainder of District 14-4A Division I play, with La Vernia next on the schedule.

And as the Bulldogs continue their district run, keep an eye on #3 Shamar Nichols. The sophomore is already showing the athleticism and playmaking ability that could make him one of the names to watch throughout the rest of the season.

Final: Somerset 43, Floresville 15
