Two undefeated teams met Friday night as the Boerne Greyhounds traveled to face the Davenport Wolves in one of the San Antonio area's most anticipated Week 3 matchups.

Both teams entered the game with perfect 2-0 records, making the matchup an important early-season test for two programs looking to build momentum heading into district play. The game was scheduled for 7 p.m. at Davenport.

Boerne came into the matchup ranked among the area's top teams after opening the season with victories over Round Rock Westwood and United. The Greyhounds defeated Westwood 34-14 before edging United 41-34 in a high-scoring Week 2 battle.

A major part of Boerne's early success has been its ability to move the football. Through two games, the Greyhounds were averaging more than 450 total yards per game, including 210 rushing yards and 242.5 passing yards per game.

Davenport entered the contest with plenty of momentum of its own. The Wolves opened the season with a 37-26 victory over Long Creek before dominating Glenn 58-20 in Week 2.

The Davenport offense had also been productive through the first two games, averaging 432.5 total yards per game. Sophomore running back Jax Zamarripa had been a major contributor, averaging 116 rushing yards per game and scoring five total touchdowns entering the matchup.

That made Friday night's game a fascinating matchup of two high-powered offenses. Boerne had the experience and early-season ranking advantage, while Davenport had the home-field advantage and an offense that had already shown it could put points on the board.

The game also served as an important measuring stick for both programs. With district play approaching, a victory would give either team valuable confidence and keep its undefeated start alive.

For Boerne, the challenge was finding a way to slow down Davenport's explosive offense while continuing to create big plays of its own. For Davenport, the goal was to defend its home field and prove it could compete with one of the area's highly regarded programs.

With both teams entering at 2-0, there was little separating the Greyhounds and Wolves on paper. Friday night's matchup provided an early opportunity for one team to make a statement and emerge from the contest with its undefeated record intact.

SouthernSportsReport will continue to follow both programs as they move toward district play and the second half of the 2026 season
