CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Calallen Wildcats opened district play in dominant fashion Friday night, overpowering the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans 69-7 in a District 15-4A Division I matchup.

Calallen entered the contest at 3-1 after picking up an impressive 45-31 road victory over Sinton the previous week. Moody came into the game 1-3, fresh off a 43-0 shutout victory over Falfurrias.

The Wildcats wasted little time establishing control. Calallen's offense continued the production it had shown throughout the opening weeks of the season, while the defense kept Moody from generating any sustained momentum.

The victory gives Calallen another strong performance as the Wildcats begin their district schedule. Through their first five games, Calallen has now shown the ability to score in bunches, including 76 points against King, 42 against Carroll and 45 against Sinton.

Sophomore running back Jimmy Tipton has been one of the Wildcats' key offensive contributors this season, entering the matchup averaging 96.8 rushing yards per game and leading the team with five total touchdowns. Wide receiver/defensive back Drew Espinoza has also been a major contributor, averaging 78.7 receiving yards per game.

For Moody, the loss drops the Trojans to 1-4 overall. Despite the difficult night, Moody will have an opportunity to regroup as district play continues. The Trojans' next scheduled matchup is against Beeville Jones on October 2.

Calallen, meanwhile, improves to 4-1 and will return home next week to face Corpus Christi King on October 1.

The Wildcats' explosive offense and defensive control made a statement to begin district play, while Moody will look to bounce back as the district season moves forward.
